One of a kind Geomungo Musician

Korean-born musician E'Joung-ju, currently based in France,

is a top-tier musician in geomungo, the South Korean traditional music instrument.

She is also the artistic director of the 'Printemps Coréen' Festival in Nantes.

 

Her goal is to create new genres and inspirations by collaborating with various instrumentalists who all have different synergies with her electric geomungo.

 

Driven by great passion and creativity, E'Joung-Ju seeks to prove, through her concerts in Korea and abroad, that the richness of her instrument allows her to adapt to any musical genre; she is the first musician of Geomungo to play fusion music / world music and electro-acoustic music.

E’Joung-Ju (LEE Jeoung-Ju 이정주 / Gemoungo) Sébastien Boisseau / Contrebasse Jonathan Marcoz / Enregistrement & Mixage Hugo Le Baill / Images et montage Stephan Anizon / Production Printemps Coréen Sébastien Boisseau et E'Joung-Ju ont célébré le mariage de la contrebasse et du geomungo, deux instruments de facture classique, les anciens et les tombes, aux cordes pincées ou frottées.Confortablement installé à l'heure de sieste, que vous parcouriez les époques et les musiques du Sanjo et du Minyo, ces musiques populaires du 18e siècle qui permettent de franchir simplement les frontières entre l'improvisation et les compositions originales. Qui aurait osé réunir un jour une contrebasse et un geomungo? C'est E'Joung-Ju, dans sa soif de modernité, qui a choisi Sébastien Boisseau pour célébrer le mariage de ces deux instruments classiques et sérieux, aux cordes pincées ou frottées.Tout comme leurs instruments, ces deux artistes sont de lointains cousins virtuoses du souffle, des sculpteurs sur bois aux gros reporters en perpétuel mouvement. «Man-nam» signifie «réunion» en coréen. MANAM est le palindrome qu’ils ont choisi pour passer d’une banque à l’autre. Un palindrome comme une symétrie dans la réunion, chacun faisant sa part du chemin. Une oeuvre à traverser les époques et la musique, celle de Sanjo et de Minyo, la musique populaire Coréen du 18ème siècle et de franchir les frontières entre improvisation et compositions originales.
